Gerald (Jerry)'s Story
Since leaving Erie, I spent nearly 40 years in the US Army, either active duty or reserve and enlisted and commissioned. I have served in various command (company through brigade) and staff (battalion, brigade, group, joint task force, theater special operations command) positions through combatant command in Infantry and Special Operations units as well as the Executive Officer to the Deputy Commanding General, US Forces-Afghanistan and as the Chief of Staff, US Forces-Afghanistan. In the civilian realm, I am the Senior Vice President of Engineering and Quality in a contract manufacturing company of complex technology products. Just prior I was the Global Vice President of Quality in a Fortune 100 company's defense and commercial aerospace business after having worked in the automotive industry since 1996. I have served as a plant quality engineer, plant quality manager, a supplier quality engineer and supervisor (at GM), corporate quality manager (Tenneco) and Quality Director (Tenneco & Hayes-Lemmerz) previously.
I received my Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and Masters in Manufacturing Engineering from Wayne State University, Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College and have attended the Executive Management Program at the University of Michigan Business School. I am married (since 1999) to the former Shannon Adams of Northville and we added a beautiful daughter (Reese) to the family in Oct 02 and a rugged son (Aiden) in Dec 04. m Madonna University in Livonia. I've been in and out of active military duty in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) with multiple deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan and assignments to Europe, Asia and Africa.
Reese graduated the Class of 2020 from Mercy High School and graduated from the University of Michigan College of Engineering majoring in Aerospace Engineering and minoring in Material Science Engineering on a 4 Year National Army ROTC Scholarship. I gave her the oath of office as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army and she has been selected to be an aeromedevac pilot. Aiden was the Class of 2023 at Detroit Catholic Central High School, a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, and attends the University of Michigan College of Engineering majoring in Industrial Operations Engineering and minoring in Business. I retired from the Army on 01 AUG 2020 as a Colonel and will work only long enough as a business executive to put both kids through college after which my move to our cottage in Indian River, MI will be imminent!
